ArticlesThe Big PictureOh, and the other question I get all the time? It seems that every other guy on Wall Street has a crush on Becky Quick: "What's she like?" She's very very nice (and actually does most of here stuff extemporaneously -- no teleprompter) Squawk BlogOne More Glut... We've talked a lot about the denim gut and the cement bubble, but it seems the more you look, the gluts just keep on coming. This may sound a little nutty, but Americans are drowning in peanuts. A bumper crop of 2.3 million tons is expected this year ... add that to the 215 tons of peanuts still left from last year's crop and you get a peanut glut. About half a million tons more than we consume in an average year. But don't cry for the farmers - they'll still be making a pretty penny. They're guaranteed $355 a ton. So who pays for this peanut glut? You do. Taxpayer dollars subsidize peanut production. Last year the bill cost taxpayers more than $320 million. This year, you can expect an even higher tab. Those subsidies are inspiring even more farmers to plant peanuts. Peanut acreage rose 25% in Georgia this year, and jumped 15% nationwide. It's even catching the attention of lawmakers in Washington. One senator is urging the industry to "get creative", and find more uses for peanuts. Peanut butter pizza, anyone? Becky Quick - CNBC Business News
